# Collision
A collision is a broad term that describes any event where two or more bodies exert forces on each other for a relatively short time.
The [[Hertz Law]] describe the contact between two elastic solids.
There is also [[Inelastic Collisions]].
Collision analysis often emphasizes momentum exchange
# Impact
An impact is a type of collision with a high force over a short duration.
(see [[Impact Models]])
Impact analysis considers material deformation and damage
# Shock
A shock is a sudden acceleration caused by various events, including impacts.
Key characteristics of shock include:
- A transient physical excitation
- Extreme rates of force with respect to time
- Measured as a vector with units of acceleration (often in multiples of g)
Shock analysis concentrates on acceleration and its effects on structures
